Eligibility

Requirements

Basic Eligibility
To be eligible for Iowa Reading Corps, applicants must be 18 years of age by August 1, 2018, must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, and must be able to pass a basic reading skills test. There is no upper age limit for Iowa Reading Corps members.

Potential members must also pass the National Sex Offender Public Website check, the statewide criminal history registry check, and the FBI nationwide Criminal History Record Information check to be eligible to serve with the program.

AmeriCorps Eligibility
Term limit regulations have recently changed for AmeriCorps members. Individuals can now serve up to four terms with an AmeriCorps State or National program (such as Iowa Reading Corps). Iowa Reading Corps AmeriCorps Program allows members to serve no more than 4 terms with our specific program. After serving four years with a State and National program(s), individuals are still eligible to serve with an AmeriCorps*VISTA or AmeriCorps*NCCC program. However, if you are considering additional years of service, please keep in mind that AmeriCorps members can only earn the equivalent of up to two full-time education awards in their lifetime. Once members have met this limit, they are not eligible to receive additional education awards for additional terms of service.
