United Ways of Iowa has recently taken on funding for another national service program: Foster Grandarents. Foster Grandparents are role models, mentors, and friends to children with special and exceptional needs. The program provides a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving children and youth in their communities. Volunteers typically serve in schools, day cares, or community centers.
There are perks to being a Foster Grandparent, too! Foster Grandparents my be eligible for a tax-free stipend to supplement income, as well as provided transportation or travel reimbursement. Free meals are provided on site. No background in education necessary!
